The Altar

The forecast was damp, getting damper but not full on lashing - we decided to risk it and head towards Barley Cove.  First stop Ballyrisode which is always lovely whatever the weather and we had the added highlight of seeing an otter just doing its thing, swimming across the bay. The weather closing in a bit we went to Crookhaven for some lunch at the most south westerly pub in Ireland. It's a great place- you always get a warm welcome, it's cosy and the food is simple but excellent.  We carried on to Barley Cove and sat in the car for quite a long time hoping for a glimmer of light in the weather but it was by now lashing. We departed but called in at the Altar on the way home, Actually a Bronze Age wedge tomb in spectacular surroundings, once used as an altar/Mass rock during Penal Times. The resident druid was in evidence.

The fire now lit and we are doing some serious chilling. We watched 3000 Years of Longing last night which was odd.
