Exhibition on the history of Gelderland
My brother and I visited a museum in Harderwijk. It shows at present the history of Gelre, a predecessor of our province Gelderland. Much larger to begin with. Ruled by a Duke of Gelre. In our history books we learn that the princes of Orange liberated the Dutch from the Spanish ruling. At the time it was not regarded as a liberation in the East of Holland. The armies from the West brought plunder and death. We have two historians who make a lot of effort to rediscover the history of Gelre and make it know to the public. They do so in a fun way. Calling themselves the knights of Gelre. Doing TV shows, radio shows, publishing history books. And now they've assembled this exhibition. Which shows the history of Gelre from prehistory up until about 1950, the cold war.
In a fun way they oppose to the princes of Orange. So they put a photo of the prince of Orange on the floor to stamp on.. And they put in orange toilet paper, because that colour is only good for one thing....
