Cowslips

Primula veris. Found throughout most of Europe and Western Asia.

It is fairly common but has suffered a decline in the past fifty years because of changes in agriculture. Its use on motorway verges has helped to keep numbers up.

It isan important plant in our area because it is a food plant for one of our rarer butterflies, The Duke of Burgundy Fritillery.
