Beeches Cottage Nursery
At a bit of a loose end today, after doing my one job of weighing my bike and ordering a bike rack for the car (it's just about the right weight!) I decided to go for a wander to our local nursery. I had no intention to buy anything, but just wanted to see what was there in the hope that there would be better plants than in the commerical garden centres in the valley.
After a three-ish mile walk, I entered a wonderland full of chickens, Indian running ducks, African geese and turkeys (all rescued) and so many Lanarkshire-hardy herbacious perennials at very reasonable prices. The couple that ran the place were lovely and very friendly and welcoming full of lots of good tips for the garden and what to avoid. It also had lots of great signs such as 'croplifters will be propagated' and a compost loo. Next time I got (no doubt to spend lots of money on plants) I'll have to ask about the signifiacne of Berneray and Grasmere on the sign!
Despite not intending to buy anything, they had some lovely obelisks hand woven of willow grown on their land and I just had to get one for the peas which will be arriving shortly. Will definitley be back and check them out if you're ever out Lanarkshire way!
