The Vyne

Today we visited two National Trust properties in Hampshire, The Vyne, and Sandham Memorial Chapel in extra.
The Vyne is a Tudor mansion which was visited by Henry the 8th on several occasions in the 1500’s. It is set in lovely grounds and despite being far smaller now than when  originally built, it retains many interesting features. We particularly liked the Chapel with beautifully wooden carvings and Flemish tiles from the 16th century, some very unusual images!
We then went to The Sandham Memorial Chapel which is, from the outside, a plain red-brick building, constructed in the 1920’s. The interior however, houses a series of murals by Stanley Spencer which he created between 1927 and 1932, based on his experiences in the First World War. They are very impressive but due to copyright it is not possible to take photographs of them.
