Last minute adjustment
Another work day in the railway shop. The carriages for the first train arrived very late, just a few minutes before scheduled departure time and diesel hauled. Hmph. A sure sign something was amiss. Then No 7 Tom Rolt appeared and was attached at the head of the train. Turned out that one of the taps that fills the boiler of No 7 was stuck in the off position this morning. No water supply to the boiler is bad news and requires that the fire be dropped to avoid catastrophic boiler failure. No fire = no steam. So the diesel was insurance against the unlikely event of the other tap failing. A most unusual double headed train. By afternoon the stuck tap had been freed up and the diesel was no longer required.
Otherwise not much else happened on a quiet Sunday at the end of the Easter holidays.
