Three Mile Stone

I've passed this milestone in St John's Road in Corstorphine many times, even before it was incorporated into the frontage of this new building, but didn't know till today that the three miles it marks to 'Edinburgh' actually marked the distance to Haymarket; presumably the outer limits of the city at the time the milestone was erected?
