Desert Squirrel

Lizard

This lizard was in McKittrick Canyon, Guadalupe National Park, but I don't have our lizard id book with me, so will have to label it later.

We walked up the canyon, which is spectacular, to camp on McKittrick Ridge for the night. It was windy, but the campsite was sheltered. Their were flowering cacti on the ridge, and lots of wildlife in the canyon, including one dumb rattlesnake that decided to dive out of the scrub right under R's feet so he had to do quite a dance to avoid standing on it. It was only about 2 feet long, and we watched it disappear completely into a stone wall, from where it gave out a second, very long (relieved?) rattle.
