Queen Vic

Back to the birthday photos. Born today in 1819, Victoria was, as we all know, the longest reigning British monarch at 63 years and 216 day. For those counting, our current Queen will reach that landmark on 10th September 2015. Just in shot on the left is the Town Hall which was completed when Victoria was 15. The original statue was created in 1901 and was made of marble. The statue you see before you is a bronze re-cast created by William Bloye in 1951. Bloye also created the bust of Sir Josiah Mason which I photographed on 23rd February. Not sure what would have happened to the original marble piece. Also in shot is the 'Todo Es Possible' mural that I shot on 3rd May. And of course the doomed 'carbunkle'.
