In 1950 the original couple arrived by boat and landed on the sandy beach where this road is. They built a home here. Classified as squatters they had a family who had families, who has families which is who we are staying with in the house the original couple built.
The government built a road on the beach to provide access to the wharf they then built which got extended to be a container wharf which wasn't big enough for very long. It became a disused container wharf for 400 ton lighters to tie to and the road which was once a beach became very busy.
Then someone has a good idea, the squatters houses can be demolished and the people can be put into apartment buildings reaching 40 levels above the beach, think of the view, well not for these people of course. Squatters won't be able to afford an apartment here theirs will be built somewhere else. The community dragon boat that hasn't been raced since the wharf was built between it and the sea???..... the squatters problem. The people living in the new appeasements beside the restored beach after the wharf is demolished won't want a grubby old dragon boat and probably won't be interested in paddling one anyway.
