In Finnish "Leskenlehti" = Widow's leaf. I found one explanation for this Finnish name. The leaf growing after flowering is like widow's empty side missing the warmth of beloved spouse. That's just so sad! 

In other languages name of this plant reminds of running colts or donkies. That suits well since this is one of the first flowers bringing us spring.

Well... we Finnish people are known as little melancholic people. I wonder why...
