The adventure begins

We managed to get out for a walk before breakfast this morning, which was good.  We had breakfast, showered, got a load of washing on.  We organised our toilet bags first, then packed our bags for the trip.  Everything else went into bags to stay with my sister and brother-in-law until our return in July.  We were ready by 3pm, so my sister drove us out to the airport in our car.  The weather is awful - heavy rain and huge traffic congestion.  It took us an hour to get to the airport and it took my sister an hour and a half to get back home.

Our flight was showing on the board when we arrived at the airport, which was a good start.  We checked in, went through security and customs without a hitch.  It’s all been automated since we last flew out of Auckland seven years ago.  We are sitting in the lounge and relaxing properly for the first time in a long time.  We’ve been watching the guys who load and unload the baggage and cargo and feel really sorry for them having to do it in such awful weather.

Not sure when I’ll be able to post again.  We leave here at 19:40 on 21 April and arrive in Houston at 16:20 on 21 April.  No doubt it will all work out.

Although it doesn’t show up properly in the blip, the rain is tipping down outside.
