Seeds of Freedom
This bronze sculpture stands at the Seeds of Freedom Garden within Luneta Park at Manila, Philippines; made by the famed Philippine sculptor Eduardo Castrillo.
It was opened and inaugurated on June 12, 1998 to celebrate 100 years of Freedom, "Philippine Centennial Independence". Centuries ago, Philippines was taken over by the Spanish, the Japanese and the Americans to name a few, and it was only on June 12, 1898, after three centuries, when we finally attained freedom.
On the base is a plaque with the following words:
"The Seeds of Freedom is an expression of the profound gratitude of this generation for the Filipino men and women who, at the turn of the 19th century, fought for the freedom of our country and tolled the fall of a mighty empire".
This is their legacy they left us, and the legacy we will leave our children and our children's children -- their freedom. Within the base of this sculpture is The Centennial Time Capsule containing vital documents and memorabilia related to the significant events in the winning of our freedom. This time capsule is to be opened after another 100 years.
While at the park, this funny scene caught my attention, a security guard, doing a sideline?! Haha! The ever-willing photographer!
i rested and slept like a babe last night, never mind jet lag! Haha! And as soon as I woke up, finally, all I did was eat Flipino food! Everything I missed while away from home!!! Aaahhh, bliss! Hope everyone else is having a fab weekend!
Hugs and kisses to everyone!
