Wild Horses

No luck yesterday. Today, Scout and I tried again to find the wild horses that hide along the Salt River banks in the thick desert vegetation.  The river provides eel grass in the summer months that gives the horses extra nutrients when it is exceptionally hot. Now, there are estimated to be less than 500 of the Salt River wild horses in Arizona.

We saw about 30 in three clumps.  A couple of them looked pretty high spirited so we did not get that close.

They stop and graze on desert plains,
With only the wind to groom their manes.

With grace and beauty they gallop and run,
enjoying the freedom and warmth of the sun.
