Femke meets Ophelia
Dilys (see extra) very generously included me in her guided tour of a selection of paintings at Tate Britain today. She focussed on Victorian pictures and we were given an in depth explanation of the background and techniques used.
One of the very well known pictures was Ophelia by Millais. While Dilys was talking to us a young woman was sketching. She looked remarkably like the Pre-Raphaelite model in the painting. A long floaty dress and auburn hair.
I had to ask her if she was an especial enthusiast of this period of art. Her name is Femke, from the Netherlands, and she confirmed that she is a big fan of the picture.
Later I popped in to the Rossettis' exhibition. Interesting but not my cuppa. Great to have a chance to see it though.
