"A rump of historic trails"
Andy and his two mates headed off along the Kerry Ridgeway on their bikes, through the mist and rain. To quote a sign I found, 'The Cumbrian Mountains of mid-Wales are criss-crossed by countless old tracks and routeways. Many have, long ago, been abandoned and reabsorbed into the landscape, whilst others have become part of today's road network. However, a rump of these historic trails remain tantalisingly intact, threading through the countryside. The most ancient of all such tracks is the Kerry Ridgeway. Its origins are lost in the mists of time but it is certainly older than the Iron Age and Dark Ages earthworks which cut its line.'
I explored Bishops Castle (definitely recommend the Poetry Pharmacy cafe) and Clun castle, then headed on in the campervan to Rhayader.
