A time for everything

Garfield Place

Saturday
This evening, we were going to a Cincinnati Symphony concert at Music Hall. Fortunately, I had seen a warning online, that there was also a Cincinnati FC soccer game at the nearby QTL stadium, so parking was going to be at a premium, and a premium price too. So we allowed plenty of time, and avoided our usual parking area, which lies between Music Hall and the stadium, and managed to find some metered street parking, a bit further away. Fortunately it was a dry evening, though on the cool side. My blip was taken as we walked to Music Hall, Garfield Place, with a statue of James A. Garfield, 20th President of the U.S., born in Ohio, who served just six months, from March 4, 1881 till his death in September of the same year, as he consequence of an assassin’s bullet on July 2. The concert was just one work, Mahler’s 7th Symphony, performed without intermission. It’s not performed as often as some of his other symphonies, such as the 2nd “resurrection” or the 3rd or the 5th, and I don’t know that I had heard it live before. Being just one work, and without intermission, it finished somewhat earlier than usual, which was good, since we were able to get home and catch the second half live of Laura’s choir concert, live streamed via Facebook from Wausau Wisconsin. Shortly later, the first half became available to watch, recorded. They are a very good choir, and were performing some beautiful pieces. Got to love modern technology - sometimes!
