Lovely lidos

A friend sent this today. It’s of Southbury Road Lido in Enfield. I wasn’t in the area for this but my lovely work colleague was and remembers visiting. She doesn’t remember the fountain though so that’s a mystery.

I added the arrow because I love this little bit of the scene - ladies and a white tablecloth presumably sharing ‘tea’ at some point.

The lido is so vast. There’s so much structure around it - almost like cricket pavilions. Such a shame that so many went out of fashion. It’s so crowded, so what happened? Was it Health and Safety, or the need for land to build on, or crumbling walls and leaky pools or what? Maybe it was only crowded on a small number of days a year and so it wasn’t financially viable.
