Calle Real

More patterns! I haven't taken many touristy photos of Almuñecar, so here's one of the main shopping street -- most of the old town is pedestrianised for the good reason that the streets are too narrow for cars, and some of them are flights of steps anyway. Another typical street in extras. A couple of weeks ago this one was liberally splattered with red candle wax from the Easter processions, but the lady street cleaners have been round scrubbing it back to sparkling clean -- they are very streetproud and always look smart themselves.

We went into town hoping to lunch at the Pajaritos, where we haven't been for ages, but sadly in its unpredictable way it was closed, so we went to the Francisco II (offshoot of the Backstop) instead. We don't go there often, but it's a good location for lunch on a hot day as it has a shady terrace on a quiet square -- pedestrian apart from the odd moped. And the price can't be beat -- 10.95 for a 3-course menu, including a glass of wine. We splashed out on an extra glass each, and coffee, so the total bill was 30 euros for the two of us. And the traditional food was very good of its type, especially at that price. Better value than the Chaleco!

Copious lunch and two glasses left me feeling quite dozy, so unusually for me I had a siesta that lasted two hours. Woke up feeling a bit woozy, but I am gradually reviving. It's very hot and sunny and forecast to be 30C by the weekend.
