Away south, over the Pentland Firth to Caithness and Sutherland. Lottie and I have met up with friend S for Glamping Pod holiday!
First stop was the supermarket to stock up on food and then it was on to Cnoc Freiceadain long burial cairns. Unexcavated, covered with turf, these long mounds are 5500 years old, with views of Dounreay nuclear power station, and Orkney in the distance. Lovely to see the flagstone fences too. Ancient and modern together.
We had a good steep walk after tea, nearly getting dark as we got back, there are acres and acres to explore above the pods. Lots of mud and bracken and gorse! Not the best night's sleep as Lottie and I were sharing a single bed and she insisted of being as close as she could get to me!
