The Hill House
The second day of our Mackintosh Tour continued and the weather was stunning today.
I started by taking the group to the Townhead Area of Glasgow, with a quick viewing of Martyrs' School, close to where Mackintosh was born. We then went over to the Necropolis Cemetery and finished with a visit to the majestic Glasgow Cathedral.
I then took the group over to Scotland Street School, which was one of Mackintosh's last commissions in Glasgow. We then drove over to the House for an Art Lover. As it was such a sunny day I let the group walk through the beautiful Walled Garden, before taking them on a tour of the House and the then we had a lunch in the Art Lovers Cafe. As usual the food was superb.
After lunch we made our way over to Helensburgh, but we got caught up in the Bank Holiday traffic heading to Loch Lomond. After a bit of a delay we finally arrived at our destination, The Hill House. Designed for the Glasgow publisher Walter Blackie between 1902-4, the house is believed to be Mackintosh's finest domestic creation. I took the group on a tour of the house and the garden. The light was stunning today and the exterior of the House looked fabulous, as it has recently been painted. While there I managed to take a few exterior shots in the garden. This is a shot at the entrance gate.
Hope you are all enjoying this superb weekend. You can see day one of the tour.
