Our 'new' caravan
After quite a fraught evening, we are at last on the road, heading just an hour up the road for a long weekend at the camping and caravanning club site at Sandringham. Fraught, because we picked up the van this afternoon with no problem, but after filling it with our stuff, we were ready to leave at 6. Did the usual lights test, and only half were working, with no brake lights at all. Yet they had worked at 3pm.
After much swearing, and taking the socket out, then in again etc, multiple times, eventually Jon took apart the brand new from Halfords special adaptor (it is 12 pin not 6) only to find 2 wires completely severed. A relief to find the fault, but keeping us with little time to get to the site - we need to be there by 8. I called the site and they gave me instructions for checking in after 8, but we are hopeful to be there on time now. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
So....this is actually our dream caravan. It is an Eriba. A quirky German made caravan - you can see the door is on the opposite site. They became very popular during lockdown, and in 2021 when on holiday in Wales we had quite severe caravan envy, as we were surrounded by them. We started to look into them seriously after that holiday, and made plans to source the exact one we wanted even we retire. The decision was made. But, the caravan we bought last year has had a lot more damp than we had realised, plus the heater wouldn't work, there was a leak from the water pump and it was impossible to keep things inside without them going mouldy. We had some great breaks away in it, but our thoughts were turning to a replacement. It was then that fate stepped in. A lovely couple who I sing with were planning to sell their caravan. It was the exact eriba we had our sights on, what were the chances! The deal was done, and they were more than generous. We feel humbled by their kindness. They are happy it is going to a good home, to have more adventures. We know it's history (they have had it from new). It's more than we could have dreamed of, and getting it home and making it our own, it is still every bit as perfect as we hoped it will be. I'll share inside photos once we are set up. I probably won't stopping talking about it all weekend!!
So in other news, I did the shopping, then sang with the lovely ladies and gentlemen in East Runton village hall. Had a little wander round QD but nothing much else. We have left the home, cat and chicken in the capable hands of Mollie and Henry. Hoping for a relaxed weekend checking out a different bit of Norfolk.
