Boiler Room
Today I had the privilege of going somewhere that very few people have set foot - the now defunct boiler room on top of Trellick Tower in West London.
Trellick is Grade 2* listed, designed by Erno Goldfinger and completed in the early 1970's. Despite it's iconic status, it has seen better days and is due a 'sensitive' facelift.
The boiler room is thirty stories high up the ladder of the service tower and hasn't been used for forty years. Literally a few months after the block welcomed it's first residents the 1973 fuel crisis put pay to the gigantic boilers and an alternative heating system was found.
The fate of the wonderful boiler room is yet to be decided; whatever the outcome, it was quite something to be up in the clouds overlooking London in industrial retro heaven.
