Peony bud

While it wasnt raining today I took the opportunity to have a wander around the garden in search of a blip. There was so much to choose from. Suddenly everything has come into bud.

I was attracted to the colours of the peony buds but as I drew closer I was appalled at the number of ants crawling over them. Assuming they must have some awful disease I headed for the internet to do some research. I only had to type 'ants on' when google predicted 'peony buds' - it must be a common search! Apparently it is perfectly normal and very common. I have been growing peonies for at least 20yrs and never seen them before.
