Day 144 of 365 - Lady Godiva Statue!
Welcome to day 144 of 365 (Finished image after Editing)
The original photo was taken in the Broadgate area of Coventry City centre. The image is of the Lady Godiva Statue. The Statue is made of Bronze and stands on top of a stone base. Sir William Reid Dick was commissioned as the sculptor of the Statue by Mr William Bassett-Green. The Statue which cost £20,000 was unveiled on 22 October 1949 at Midday. It was gifted to the City to help boost morale in Coventry after the destruction during the Blitz of the Second World War. Lady Godiva is a major part of the history of Coventry. She is most famous for the Legend of riding naked through the streets of Coventry, clothed only in her long hair. This was as a protest to the taxes levied on the people of Coventry by her husband Leofric, the Earl of Mercia. The Legend also states that all the people of Coventry were to remain indoors and not to look as Godiva passed by. A Tailor (known now as Pepping Tom) disobeyed and after looking out as Godiva passed was struck blind. Godiva was successful and Leofric kept his word and abolished the excess taxes.
The Statue is classed as a Grade II* listed building. It is number 16 on my list of 24 (Grade II*) Listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph.
As always the shot was taken with my iPhone 5. The photo was taken using the camera App KitCam for iPhone. The original image can be found here: Unedited original Image.
First of all I used PhotoToaster to edit the image. The edits were made by first cropping the photo into a square, then applying a Warm tint, sepia fx, a large white vignette and the scratched texture to the image. Next I used the app Distressed FX to add the extra texture to the image using the Cole overlay and the Lade Texture. Finally I added the border to the image using the Scratches Border in the app Alt Photo.
