Succulent
Botanically speaking; succulents are plants specifically evolved to retain water in arid climates. This definition brings the cactus to mind, but 'nearly all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti'. The word 'succulent' comes from the Latin word succus, 'meaning 'juice' or 'sap'. We typically think of succulents as desert plants, but they're even found in alpine ecosystems, where they grow in rocky soil. This one is growing happily in our 'greenhouse'. Succulents are popular 'collectible' plants because they are relatively easy to maintain and propagate.
