Lily of the Valley on May Day in France.

This flower really gained importance in France after King Charles IX was given a plant in 1561. He was told it would bring him luck so he gave a plant to all the ladies of the court every year on May 1 to bring more luck to the court. The idea caught on and it became a tradition for men to give the flower to loved ones as a token of love and appreciation and to bring good luck for the year ahead.
