Through the Woolwich foot-tunnel
Not as intensively used as the Greenwich foot tunnel, but the Woolwich Tunnel was constructed around the same time, and served a similar purpose - allowing workers from south of the river to get to work on the north side.
Today, it formed part of my 'two tunnels' half-marathon route - my second run above HM distance in a week. As I cut through past the ExCEL exhibition centre, I got slowed down by 100s of people attending a Star Wars convention - people in fancy dress (lots of Darth Vaders!) were converging on ExCEL from all directions, and I even passed some about 3km away on the Isle of Dogs.
