Miners!

We went to Craigies Farm for lunch, then headed across to Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life.

We enjoyed the main museum area which had lots of big machines to look at, and but we were a bit disappointed the vintage trams weren't running.  We were pretty excited about the mine tour though...  We got miners helmets and they took us down a reconstruction of a drift mine, with lots of scenes to show us how the miners worked at different times in history.  Children used to work in the mines too - CyclopsJnr wasn't keen on that idea!   We also enjoyed seeing the miners cottages, visiting (and purchasing from) an old fashioned sweet shop (weighing out sweets from jars) and having a cake in the cafe.  It was a lovely afternoon out and we'll definitely be back again!
