Traditional

This is possibly my favourite restaurant. It is in the fishing village of Auchmithie, which is just a few miles from Arbroath in Angus. The traditional food served here includes Arbroath smokies which are haddock smoked using a process developed here in Auchmithie before being moved to the nearby town. The restaurant is in a pair of the traditional fishermen's cottages which are common in the village. The name "But'n Ben" refers to a traditional type of two-roomed Scottish country cottage in which the Ben room was for the people to live in, and the other one, the But, was for the animals.
