First
of May is a bank holiday in Berlin. We joined the march to the Rotes Rathaus/Red town hall (where the Tory Mayor of Berlin is based). The Schornsteinfeger/chimney sweep union had the best uniforms. Black top & bowler hats and very steampunk vibes. I found a union to join and beer and sausages were enjoyed.
We had another cinema trip and saw the first installment of the 3 Musketeers. The cinema was huge but our film was showing in a tiny screen which was decorated like a library. It was cosy and luxurious in a way that cinemas in the UK used to be but no longer are. Going to the cinema is similar to going to a bookshop to buy a new book. Both are cultural and feels more accessible to people here than in Scotland. In Scotland I think the financial squeeze keeps people out of cinemas and bookshops. Cinemas are busy, especially at the weekend. A curious cultural phenomenon.
Bought my coronation T shirt, hoping it arrives in time.
