In which: on strike

On strike again today.

You’ll read / hear a lot that the government offered us 4.5% and £1000 lump sum and we rejected it. That is true.

The reason we rejected is that the government only were willing to fund 0.5% and the rest had to be ‘found’ by head teachers so, in reality, they actually offered 0.5% and wanted your children and grandchildren to pay for the extra 4%.

That’s what we rejected.

I am also on strike because after 18 years of teaching I am paid £7000 less than a colleague in Scotland is paid after 6 years in the classroom. That 4.5% or 0.5% isn’t going to sort that absolute inequity in a hurry.

Please support teachers. It takes a couple of minutes to email your MP.
