Weapon Of Choice
On This Day In History
1980: M.A.D.D. founder's daughter is killed by a drunk driver
Quote Of The Day
"Death by drunk driving is the only socially acceptable form of homicide."
(Candy Lightner)
Bonus Quote Of The Day
"The automobile is the most dangerous weapon in our society - cars kill more than wars do."
(Ray Bradbury)
Thankfully, since Ms. Lightner made that statement, things have improved. Killing somebody while D.U.I. in many U.S. states is regarded as "vehicular homicide" and can carry up to a fifteen year prison sentence. In the U.K., it is up to fourteen years although the term "vehicular homicide" is not used; instead, it is "vehicular manslaughter." In Japan the penalty is seven years or less. Thankfully, in all three countries, the number of vehicular homicides has decreased significantly in the past decade but, of course, every death is a tragedy and even one is too many.
"If I had one wish,
I'd wish to talk with you.
I have some questions,
Things only you could know."
A Child With The Ghost
28 people die every day in the U.S. from motoring accidents.
In Japan it’s seven per day.
In the U.K. it’s five per day.
