Gorge-ous!
BACK-BLIPPED ON MAY 3
Our adventure today was a drive to and through The Gorge of Galamus. The gorge itself is really impressive but our first stop was to climb down to the Hermitage (visible in the photo above and in the extra)
and after that, to walk along the road that winds through the gorge..(extra)
We drove on to Cucugnan for lunch and then had some time to sketch in the village…the highlight of which is the old windmill and of course the fabulous bakery that sits next to it!
Isabelle, our driver, took the backroads home to give us one last look at all the amazing scenery in that area..the castle ruins on the hill tops, the forests, the mountains, rivers and gorges…it was back home for a farewell dinner at le Monastère as four of the women were leaving the next morning..
The group started out as eight. One flew home a couple of days into the trip as she had wrecked her knee, and then there were seven…and then this morning, one did not go on the outing as she was ill..leaving six..and after tonight, there will be three…it was sounding like an Agatha Christie novel!
Tomorrow? A quiet day for the three of us..time to take a last look at Limoux and pack for the next stage of our trip.
