Lava Flow Area?

As we flew over the North-West corner of the Big Island of Hawaii I noticed there was a developed area on what looks like a lava flow that jutted out in the ocean. It looks like some kind of industrial area with long buildings, perhaps a treatment plant. Maybe a place to process sea salt? I looked at Google Maps and couldn't find this area so I don't know exactly where it is...I just know it was shortly after we took off from the Kona Airport.

The vacation was wonderful but I was ready to go home.
