Lloyd's annual Christmas 1930
We visited one of Mr hazelh's relations today in Dursley, Gloucestershire on our journey north from Somerset today. Liz is another of Mr hazelh's second cousins once removed (and a first cousin of Lorna Baxter visited yesterday).
One of the Lloyd's annuals* complied by Mr hazelh's great grandfather Albert (Bertie), and which features art work and quite a lot of writing by his daughter Lorna Lloyd, has ended up in the possession of Liz. She kindly allowed us to photograph the annual and its contents this morning when we broke our journey at her house for coffee/tea.
It was quite an emotional experience for me to turn the book's pages to discover Bertie's handwriting again, and some more beautiful images painted by Lorna. I shed a few tears when I came across several photographs of Lorna having fun in the family garden in Sheffield, and on Cornish beaches, aged about 16. My blip is of the front cover of the annual, designed and painted by Lorna.
Our final destination of the day was Manchester. We are staying a couple of nights here with the Foxes at the end of our wee English holiday. This evening we sat outside in the sunshine before dinner, came inside to eat, then watched a little television together before bed. None of us ever saw Black books when it was first broadcast two decades ago so we watched the first episode to see if we like it. We do.
*I blipped a lot of the content from two other Lloyd's annuals in the LornaL journal in 2020. This was the first entry that referenced this material.
Exercise today: none (again!)
