Danjiri Matsuri

Today is another national holiday and I happened upon this cart pulling festival. Danjiri are large wooden carts in the shape of a shrine or temple. On the day of the festival they are decorated with elaborate flower arrangements, prayer cards and flags.

The person on the front of the roof controls the direction and performs a traditional fan dance. Lots of people participate in pulling the cart which crisscrosses the streets.
