Kae Tempest

Lucie, a friend and I went to see Kae Tempest at the Assembly Room in the evening. I have never seen them perform before but they are among Lucie's favourite performers and I did like their poetry. To say that I was blown away is an understatement. Part rap, part poetry, this performance defies definition and boundaries. 
Beyond the amazing words and performance is the immense respect that I perceived both for their audience and for themselves. They thanked us and acknowledged the journey and commitment we made in order to be there; they asked for the lights to be put on at the end - during a standing ovation - so that they could see our faces. At the end of the performance Lucie said "I think they are enlightened", she might be right...
