An alternative coronation party
The staff in the ward where Mum is currently a patient pulled out all the stops today!
They had arranged a Coronation party for the entire ward. A superb singer who had donated her time to sing for the patients provided live music, and then some other staff members took over and performed. I wonder if 'We'll meet again' will ever become a karaoke standard.
The side wards had all been decorated with Union Jack bunting and balloons, each one also had a table which had been laid out as if it were a miniature street party. There were drinks laid on in the shape of fruit juice and Prosecco (non-alcoholic). Mum's side ward has six beds and although few of the patients are able to get up and sit at a table everyone valued the thought that they were not left out.
Whilst the music played cakes were brought round and offered to patients and visitors alike. Mum managed a miniature cup cake and said it was delicious, I had a slice of red velvet and a cup of tea and agree it was very enjoyable.
Many of the staff had come in on their day off to make this happen, and on top of that they funded the whole thing from their own pockets.
There is a lot to complain about with the state of the NHS in Wales just now but this really demonstrates that NHS staff are made up of some of the finest, caring people in the land.
A huge thank you to all the people that made this extraordinary thing happen today, it served as a huge boost for those unfortunate to be in hospital at this time.
I am so appreciative of you all. x
