Euskirchen

We had a light breakfast at the hotel as we were going to our friends’ daughter’s home some distance away for lunch.  The hotel was very kind and let me do a load of washing, which was great.

We set off soon after 10:30 and arrived in Ruppichteroth just over an hour later.  As we drove on the autobahn we saw a most unusual sight - a convertible Range Rover.  We had coffee and a chat when we arrived, then I went out with Lothar and his granddaughter, Sophia, to buy some little pots of crème brûlée and tiramisu for dessert, as well as some bubbles.  I had to be very firm with Lothar so that I could make the purchases and not him.  The family have been such generous hosts and it was the least I could do.  On our return lunch was ready - goulash with spätzle noodles and potatoes.  Delicious.  We had fun putting the sugar on top of the crème brûlée pots and caramelising it with a little burner.  After lunch we went for a short walk on a country road to see the scenery and then had coffee before returning to Euskirchen.  As we waited at a set of traffic lights we saw another unusual sight - a red Messerschmitt three-wheeled bubble car.  I managed to get a quick photo of it as it drove through the intersection.  Back at our friends’ place we relaxed for a while, then had a light meal and some bubbles before returning to our hotel.

The blip shows the convertible Range Rover and the Messerschmitt bubble car; a lovely old iron archway; a loaf of rye bread baked by Marius; and two illuminated plastic palm trees outside the Chinese restaurant.
