Opening Day
After yesterdays bad weather I was glad to see it was a lot better today for the opening day of boating and the annual crew races and parade. We didn’t go watch but we did get to the University Bridge for a distant view of the Montlake cut and the start of the parade. With steamboat and news helicopter. But I saw no fireboats, which usually begin then parade with water fountains. Extra is a few minutes earlier before the crew boats cleared out. Seemed to be much fewer boats this year all around. Of course it got sunnier later on. And then rained.
Woke up (not on purpose ) after 4:00AM so saw just a bit of the coronation live. H remembers seeing it in 1953, in black and white, with his Canadian grandmother who was elated. He had a plastic version of the golden carriage to make! I think we had our first tv then too but I do not remember watching Queen Elizabeth.
Good news of this week.. Granddaughter Tatum happily got her choice of major at the UW… the School of Public Health, a great place we think, with the impressive Hans Rosling Center for Population Health.…It will be fun to follow what she does…
A nice day….and now I”m going to make dinner for friend Mike….
