Master of Light

When I first heard of the Vermeer Exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam I really wanted to go. We made plans but then thought about how many people would be there and would we be able to see the paintings and by then it was all sold out anyway. So that was that . . .

. . . until I heard about the film of the exhibition that had been made and was screening around the country. I seemed to be fated as I couldn’t get to any of the screenings, for one reason or another. I gave up whilst people said how good it was.

Then I discovered that Rheged were putting on one last screening - today at 4pm. We weren’t the only ones who had sacrificed parties etc. as the place was unusually well attended. And it was well worth going. An excellent film - plenty of time to look at each painting and just enough information, given by several expert enthusiasts, to add to your understanding and appreciation. Because of the big screen it sometimes felt like you were actually there. We both thoroughly enjoyed it.
