The first bean
I escaped to the allotment in the afternoon and the weather was glorious and warm. The first bean has poked its head about the soil in the polytunnel and the cabbage that have been in there all winter have suddenly decided to grow, just as I'm thinking of clearing them out in preparation for the tomatoes. <sigh>
Most of my time was spent refilling the compost bin with brown and green layers. I harvested some of the comfrey for a green layer and stole some grass cuttings from a friend as she went passed with her wheelbarrow. Almost 2/3rds full now. I have a compost thermometer on its way, so I will be able to check the temperature of the bin to see what is happening in there.
There is a glorious golden covering of dandelions on my plot and many others around. I think mine have learnt to flower low and escape the lawn mower. So I spent some time clearing them before they turn into dandelion clocks. It is so much easier to pull up the plants on the borders that have had cardboard down!
The extra is one of my pak choi plants which seem to be infested with some grey aphids. :-(
