Relay Marathon
Today I took part in a relay marathon in Edinburgh with colleagues from work. We had 2 teams and we were running for Headway (brain injury charity). One of our colleagues had been in a freak bike accident and was in a coma for 5 weeks followed by rehabilitation in hospital for 7 months. She and her partner both did the 'Glory Leg' and crossed the finish line together.
She was my inspiration as I puffed and panted the 8 miles (leg 3) to hand over to her partner. My other team mates at that changeover and me made our way to the finish line for celebratory hugs and champagne. My eyes filled with tears as I looked at her - she truly is amazing. Tomorrow you may see the team photo.
All in all it was a day of inspirations. Everyone who makes the commitment to run 26.2 miles in one go (I know I will never be one). That goes from the people who finish in really fast times to those who just slog their way round in 6 hours. The other heart-warming element was seeing everyone's t-shirts and the variety of charities who benefit from the large to the very small.
