Tuesday; Vermeer to Ear

We spent the morning at the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam, taking in their exhibition of Vemeer paintings.  This has had global acclaim - we booked 4 months ago and back then it was close to full.  Needless to say the place was packed.

We’ve had a long interest in Vemeer and despite having seen many of the paintings before, in books or on TV, there were a few that were astonishing to see in the flesh.  Particularly with respect to lighting and composition.

I read an article ages ago by a French pro photographer who specialises in photography for the tourist industry.  He gets access to places at times we public don’t.   So his advice is, if you can’t photograph the ‘thing’  because there are too many people in the way, then photograph the people looking at the ‘thing’  instead.  Which is what I did.

Later in the day, we went across to the Van Gogh Museum.  Once again, packed.  Big surprise though; while the Vemeer was full of pensioners, Van Gogh was mainly full of young people.

Apologies for lack of comments and replies.  Tiredness and technology has conspired against us.
