Green and White ….
..and pungent!
Last week we were glorying in the lush bluebells in Middleton Woods in Ilkley and then the lovely fresh greens in St Ives Woods on Thursday. Today we headed to Skipton Castle Woods in the hope of catching the Wild Garlic ( Ransom) flowers at their best. We came last year and we were a bit too soon as it is very shady so they are sometimes a bit behind those growing in more open areas.
As we walked along behind the towering castle walls towards the woods we could smell the pungent smell of these amazing plants.
There may be even more flowers open if the warm weather continues this week but we weren’t disappointed.
There are some small patches of bluebells too but the Ransoms are the stars.
There are some willow sculptures dotted through the woods and someone had adorned them with garlic flowers too.
A more mixed day than yesterday but it was mainly sunshine and clouds with just a few spots of rain, very pleasant for walking.
