Old Market
I spent the morning exploring an interesting part of Bristol I'd never been to before, apart from driving through on my way to somewhere else.
The Old Market Quarter was a busy and important part of Bristol for centuries; but after Luftwaffe bombs wiped out adjacent shopping streets, and town planners then built a large road and massive roundabout cutting it off from the new centre, it unsurprisingly declined. For most of the 37 years that I've lived in Bristol, it was a run-down and uninviting area, in spite of having numerous beautiful and/or interesting old buildings.
But now, happily, it seems to be making a come-back. There are seven or eight buildings worth seeing, including this Central Hall, as well as plenty of cafes, pubs and shops. Yay Bristol!
