Peace Garden
I remember the controversy some thirty years ago when it was suggested by Stirling Council that a small Japanese style Peace garden ( see extra) should be established in a corner of Pullars Park, Bridge of Allan as a reminder of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons.
Few people will be aware of this and there is nothing to indicate its stormy history except for a discreet plaque ( see extra ) tucked behind some bushes in the centre of this small garden.
A search of the internet drew a blank.
Yet at the time it galvanised the local community with a huge public meeting. The reason for the opposition is that many had lost relatives in WW2.
Today that controversy, which went on for months, if not years, has been erased from history.
