Wild Crabapple …

… (?) at the Fort River National Wildlife Refuge, which we visited for the first time this spring. As some of you will recall, it’s less than a 15 minute drive, and thus wonderfully convenient.

Birds were sparse—barely a dozen species or so, but we did have some good sightings: e.g. yellow warbler, scarlet tanager, tufted titmouse, and downy & hairy woodpeckers.
