Huddersfield A - Z - Kirklees College
Slim pickings for "K". This is the new Kirklees College building - Kirklees is the local Metropolitan Borough, incorporating Huddersfield and Dewsbury, plus everywhere in between, with a population of over 400,000. It is not really a popular construct, I doubt anybody would actually say they live in Kirklees.
The college was formed in 2008 on the merger of Huddersfield Technical College and Dewsbury College. The Huddersfield campus is a hotch-potch of buildings, including a former hospital, the interior of which is the most depressing, least inspiring environment you can imagine for education. So, in September they will move to a new waterfront site (a year later than planned), into an imposing building of glass and steel.
As the site is right on the canal, there are a few mills nearby, and I liked the contrast of the brickwork on this old mill with the gleaming new edifice.
Now a song - something to do with education and bricks perhaps, hmmm, I just can't think 0f anything, I must be losing my touch.
PPS: the more observant and literate among you might have spotted a slight issue with my running order. There is a reason for this, which I will tell you tomorrow.
PPS: I finally thought of a song.
